Write of Passage

I've never had trouble writing. Writing is just another form of talking and I can talk my ass off. Especially if I'm drinking.

But, now that I'm getting paid - paid! - to write I cannot seem to form a cohesive post. For the last week every entry has begun like this:

"Today was a good day. It was fun. I did alot of things."

And then,

"Being a mother is hard. It is not easy. It is hard. Being a mother is sometimes not hard. ....But, mostly hard."

This is then generally followed by me scratching at my chest until I break out into hives.

Help me.

I so feel your pain. When I was writing I would sometimes write something really dumb and then go to the gym or take a shower or a shot of tequila and then just get the juices flowing so to speak. Sometimes you have to force the inspiration even though that seems counter intuitive. Get Stephen King's book "On Writing." It may not help but it's a good book.

Just wait, after our San Ho trip you will have loads to blog about! Maybe you should take a pre-blogher trip. For business reasons of course. It would be a write off and could kick your creative juices into full gear. We could all go out. (NOTE:Ne not breastfeeding anymore)

I'd like to get paid to write. Writer's block doth blow.

Oh, I can so relate to that. I write reams on my blog, but when I sit down to do actual paid writing, I spend 25 minutes rewriting the same sentence. And then I cry. And hyperventilate. And have a martini and half a box of girl scout cookies.

Sorry, I'd like to make a good comment, but I also have writer's block.

I've always found it more difficult if someone was depending on you. If you....I can talk it all off.

I think that's why all the greatest writers were drunks. They too had writers block. SO I say bring on the liquor and break out the opium. You can write about how when drunk, it is so hard to find your car. Not sure what that has to do with being a mom. Maybe you can change it to: "Why is it when I'm drunk I can never find my child.." Yes that's a winner.

Honey, I think Vi is right. I'm heading to the liquor store. What are you drinking?

Oh my that is too funny! Even if you weren't trying to be. Seriously, you've got the words in you. Set them free! Now don't scratch.

It's weird, but ever since I started blogging, I find myself looking at life differently, as if I'm hunting for the next fodder for a blog post. My daughter threw up at a restraunt the other day and while I was cleaning her up was thinking ,"hmm, I wonder if I can blog about this?" It's crazy. I think you should just relax, and go outside for a stroll with your daughter. The inspiration will come to you when you're not stressing about it.

I understand. Suddenly what was once a hobby seems so serious. Good luck.

If I knew how to knit, or sew, I'd make you those soft little hand booties! You know you already have a huge audience in us, your adoring fans. Would it help to picture us reading your stuff in our underwear? ;-)

No shit, right. My creative brain seems to have crawled off and hidden in a well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
