She: "This is you and me, mommy."
Me: "Oooh. Is this my purse?"
She: "No, that's your lady bug and her cheese!"
She: (throws picture and starts to cry) "It's a ballerina!"
*In my defense, she's added alot of detail since then.
CommentsI've insulted my kids so many times calling their bunnies clouds or whatnot. Now I just say "Wow. Tell me about your picture." Goes over much easier on their egos.Posted by: Chantal | 04/07/2006 at 10:47 AMI'm so guilty of that, too!My daughter draws detailed pictures of me, repleat with cleavage, a belly ring and a tattoo. Nice. I'm such a bad example.Posted by: Misha | 04/07/2006 at 11:11 AMhysterical - i think we all go thru this with the kids' artwork. it's the classic no win situation!!Posted by: Hotwire | 04/07/2006 at 11:18 AM*snort* "It's the perfect carrot!" I love it.Posted by: mama_tulip | 04/07/2006 at 11:28 AMLOL, as moms I think we all do that. I now, to be safe, ask them to describe the picture to me. LOL, a ladybug and her cheese? Too cute.Posted by: Virenda | 04/07/2006 at 12:02 PMi must say, i tend to refrain from making any guesses on drawings- always better to go with what chantal suggested :)Posted by: gnarly nanny | 04/07/2006 at 12:36 PMgorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!!!i always say "baby its SOO good, now tell me EXACTLY what it is called so i can write it for a memory!"works so far....but gorgeous*Posted by: keda | 04/07/2006 at 12:37 PMThat is hillarious! I can't count the number of times I've done that! Though, my kids seem to draw some random stuff....like humpback whales peeing on themselves! (honestly, who is raising those kids??)Posted by: Angela | 04/07/2006 at 01:36 PMLet me give you an official Preschool Teacher line....Ready?"Tell me about your drawing" - that way you don't get slammed with the wrong interpretation.Posted by: Dawn | 04/07/2006 at 04:56 PMJust so you all don't think I'm clueless, I do normally ask her to tell me about it. Sometimes, I just like to guess for my own amusement. You know, mix things up.Posted by: Lena | 04/07/2006 at 05:10 PMAdorable! I've blown it so many times over the years. I've learned not to guess until they give me some hints. ;)Posted by: Ficklechick | 04/07/2006 at 05:15 PMLOL!A ladybug and her cheese. Isn't it just too darn cute what our kids come up with sometimes. Love it.Posted by: ~ Stacy ~ | 04/07/2006 at 07:25 PMI like the ladybug and her cheese.Brilliant.Posted by: Kelly | 04/07/2006 at 11:30 PM"your lady bug and her cheese" heehee! My daughter never let me get away with "it's gorgeous" she would always say "But what is it?"LOLPosted by: Sam | 04/08/2006 at 07:24 AMI am really enjoying your blog, I found a link thru gnarly nanny and I am now hooked!Posted by: Nanny Louise | 04/08/2006 at 07:57 AMI'm going to answer "that's your lady bug and her cheese" from now on when someone asks me something I have no answer for...Posted by: Jessica | 04/08/2006 at 12:47 PMIn the first pic, it appears as though someone (you?) is wearing a very stylish, blue neckbrace. My youngest brother had a drawing stage where everything seemed to look a little phallic to us. Hmmm, must have been a boy thing. My mom saved so many pieces of art work. (You should have seen her basement!) When it came time for me to move out and go through these boxes, I laughed and cried so much. It is one of the best things I did with my Mom :)Posted by: Summer | 04/08/2006 at 10:07 PMCommenting on kids artwork is like taking a risk. If I say what a beautful tree, my daughter tells me it was supposed to be a ballerina. I've started just asking what things are, and what it's a picture of. Just knowing what the theme of the picture is can help with identifying some of the objects.Posted by: Undercover Angel | 04/09/2006 at 10:00 AMHahahaha!!! Oh, too cute and funny! Well, ballerinas ARE pretty skinny. LOL"Your lady bug and her cheese." *heart melting at the cuteness*Posted by: Jess Riley | 04/09/2006 at 01:18 PM"So what do you think it looks like?"That's what I use. And if the picture is that hard to tell, then they shouldn't be offended.Posted by: R. Robyn | 04/10/2006 at 04:49 AMI love when kids draw. They show what they see and sometimes it is not what we expect. I have boxes of Joshua's drawings that some day I will share with his kids.Posted by: Reverberate58 | 04/10/2006 at 06:53 AMOh these were wonderful. Heehee, your kid is a riot...hmmm, like her mom maybe?? :) By the way, i just read your side bar on things to do when Lost is a repeat...LOVE THAT SHOW! The hubs and I are big fans.Posted by: andrea | 04/11/2006 at 07:11 AMthat was toooooooooo funny. hilarious!!!!!!Posted by: TANYETTA | 04/13/2006 at 09:0
